Manchester United V. AC Milan: Crunch Time for Italians
bleacherreport.com Mar 09 2010 19:41
AC Milan’s Champions League hopes are hanging on by a mere thread as they prepare to lace boots of war against Manchester United at the Old Trafford.
Il Diavolo came out of the blocks early in the first fixture at a packed-out San Siro Stadium, as Ronaldinho broke the deadlock only two minutes into the game. The Brazilian’s right-foot volley from 16 yards took a deflection of Michael Carrick and stranded Edwin Van der Saar in goal.
If Ronaldinho’s goal was lucky, the visitor’s equalizer—and their first ever goal against the Rossoneri at the San Siro—was even more so. Paul Scholes missed Darren Fletcher’s low cross, but the ball hit his trailing leg and deflected in off the inside of the post.

Manchester United V Milan Preview: It Will Take Something Special
bleacherreport.com Mar 09 2010 18:30
This is not mission impossible. Rather, it is a mission that is highly improbable, but still possible. For Milan to over turn the deficit at Old Trafford, the Rossoneri will have to play an almost perfect game and hope that luck is on their side. It will take something special, that is for sure. It is unfortunate that Milan find themselves with such a daunting task, following their stellar show in the first leg. The performance of the Rossoneri in the first leg warranted more than a 3-2 loss. But, this is history as they say and what Milan need to focus on is turning things around if they are to progress to the next round. The task before Milan is to win at Old Trafford and by two goals. A daunting task to say the least. But Milan have overturned a 3-2 deficit before and against the same o
Fiorentina Crash Out of Champions League with Heads Held High
bleacherreport.com Mar 09 2010 18:18
Fiorentina exceeded all expectations as they cruised their way through the group stages facing Lyon, Liverpool and Debreceni. Coming into the first knock out round where they were drawn alongside Bayern Munich, Cesare Prandelli’s men were—despite their previous impressive performances—once again labeled underdogs. The first fixture with the Bavarians couldn’t have come at a worse time considering the poor form the Viola were showcasing, having collected only a single point from their five latest league outings. On top of that they were dealing with both injuries and Adrian Mutu’s suspension due to a failed drug test. Arjen Robben broke the deadlock from the penalty spot at the Allianz Arena after Franck Ribery had fallen under pressure from
Fiorentina 3-2 Bayern Munich | Champions League match report
guardian.co.uk Mar 09 2010 18:17
A stunning strike from Arjen Robben fired Bayern Munich into the quarter-finals of the Champions League at the expense of an unlucky Fiorentina at a wet and windy Stadio Artemio Franchi. The final score after the two legs was 4-4 but Bayern went through on the away goals rule. The Germans, leading 2-1 from the first leg, were second best for long periods of the game and had looked to be on their way out of the competition when Juan Vargas and Stevan Jovetic scored the game`s opening two goals to put the hosts ahead in the tie for the first time. But Jovetic`s strike sparked a manic 11-minute period during which four goals were scored and Bayern took an unlikely grip on the game.Mark Van Bommel levelled the tie with a low drive on the hour only for Jovetic to score his second four minutes lat
